Introduction

In the not too distant past, a valiant band of researchers with a pioneering spirit set out in quest of a special place, where they could achieve success in a mathematically stable land.  They dreamed of a place where people worked together for a common denominator.  They searched for a place where people were encouraged to hypothesize openly, compute their p values, and make decisions about their nulls.  They searched for strong relationships and central tendencies where the stakes and equities of all involved parties were represented in the sample.  They dared to understand Normal and Empirical Rule and interpret quartiles and the interquartile range.  Some of the researchers, fearful of formulas, packed carefully for the trip, tucking some of their comfortable old math into their baggage.  Others, acting on blind faith, left behind all their old calculators.

As they progressed on their journey, they came to a castle.  Taking many risks, and showing much courage, they calculated the probability of rebuilding the castle and remaining there.  It was as if someone had abandoned it, believing that the castle was too difficult to build and could not be finished.  They considered how they could best achieve their goals, and divided into teams.  As time passed, they found out they were on the right spreadsheet. They used their excels and minitabs well and solved all problems together.  As they settled in, taking their success more and more for granted, a Knight of the Opposition appeared on the horizon, threatening all of their descriptive measures.
